Updating the road’s alignment can be carried out in several ways:

After completing the design work, you can still open a road and modify all of it or only part of it.

  1. Changing the Entire Centerline:

It is possible to redefine the road’s centerline by repeating the road-definition commands. Begin by defining the road with the new c.l. using ‘Locate Centerline’ command. (Please see Horizontal Alignment). Then proceed to the vertical section and update it as needed, followed by checking each of the cross-sections.

Note: The old road will be deleted, and the new road will inherit the properties of the old one. Nevertheless, it is necessary to check and ensure that there are no locations requiring refinement or updates as a result of the new alignment.

  1. Using "Change Alignment” button:

From the main menu bar, go to Roads → Horizontal Alignment. Click the “Change Alignment” button.

In the AutoCAD/ZWCAD command line, you will be prompted to select the corrected segment. Select the new centerline from the drawing.

CivilCAD will automatically recognize the centerline segments and mark them with yellow arrows. Click “Yes”, and in the next message window click “OK” to confirm the changes to the road’s centerline.

Click the “Apply” button to rebuild the road centerline and update the alignment.

CivilCAD preserves the section names and stations up to the point where the geometry change occurs, and from the point where the change ends it creates intermediate sections along the new segment of the centerline.

Notes:

1. The distance between the intermediate sections is based on the “Distance Between Sections” setting.

2. If the new segment does not match the design, a notification will appear stating that the new segment is an illegal segment.
